The latest rage in smartphones is pushing high-megapixel cameras. This trend kicked off earlier this year with 48MP cameras—which with pixel binning create better 12MP shots—and has since spread to pretty much all smartphone ranges from mid-range devices to flagships like the OnePlus 7 series. The next logical step, of course, is even more megapixels, and smartphones with 64MP sensors have already started making the rounds with devices like the Redmi Note 8 Pro and Realme XT among the first to sport these new sensors. Now, Samsung, the makers of this 64MP image sensor, is preparing to hop on board the 64MP bandwagon with the Samsung Galaxy A70s, a new entry in their A line of mid-range smartphones.

The Galaxy A70s seems to be pretty close to the regular A70. Samsung’s new A70s packs a 4,400 mAh battery, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 system-on-chip, and the physical dimensions are pretty similar to those of the regular A70. The only real difference we can see here is that the phone uses the 64MP ISOCELL BRIGHT GM1 sensor as its main rear camera sensor. This is made by Samsung, so it makes sense for them to use this sensor in their new phone.

We don’t know the exact timeline for the release of this device, but it is slated to launch this month according to reports. Given that the support page recently went live, it means that we may not be far off from the launch date. Then again, given that this phone is just a minor, camera-oriented update to the current Galaxy A70, there isn’t a lot to look forward to besides that 64MP camera sensor, so Samsung may go for a quiet release instead of a full-blown launch event.
